Derek and Susan's Wedding

On the 1st of June 2019, I had the privilege of second shooting my first wedding alongside Tamlyn from Tamlyn Delponte Photography. This was something new and exciting for me and we had such a fun time shooting this particular wedding as it was something truly out of the ordinary. You see, Derek and Susan are not the average young couple who met and fell in love and planned their wedding... their story is a lot more intricate than that and to capture their love on camera was such a special privilege!

Derek and Susan met earlier this year. They have both been married before, but both were longing to find a new partner and have another chance at love. Derek lived in a rural farm town in the Eastern Cape and Susan resided here in Port Alfred. They were both active in their church communities and their church life groups started praying for each of them to find a partner. A good friend then set them up together and as they say, the rest is history! It was truly love at first sight!

They got married in an intimate church wedding held in the Dutch Reformed Church in Bushman's River, Eastern Cape. Only close family, friends and those extra special praying life group friends that brought them together were invited. It was a glorious, sunny day, with not so much as a breath of wind. The perfect weather for a winter wedding.

Derek looked dashing in his grey suit and waited oh so patiently (but with a hint of anxiety) for his beautiful bride to arrive, as Susan was an hour late (through no fault of her own she declared!). She arrived and looked elegant and refined in her royal purple dress. He anxiously awaited her at the end of the aisle, while her grandson gave her away.

There was a beautiful sermon led by one of their close friends and then the officiant started with the formal wedding proceedings. The tears flowed freely; there was laughter, giggles and all round good feelings as they tied the knot and said "I do." They couldn't keep their eyes off of each other during the ceremony and even less so during the photos afterwards! The sparks were flying in the sweetest way possible. How encouraging for younger generations to see that it is never too late to find love!

Ah, Derek and Susan, I wish you both well for your new life together! May God truly bless you both on this new journey and may you both always be as much in love (if not more!) than you were on your wedding day!
